Q: What is Calm Kitchen about?

A: Calm Kitchen documents my quest to reduce my anxiety by making and following an eating plan that contains foods thought to reduce anxiety.

Q: How does the eating plan work?

A: Basically I swapped all white bread, pasta and rice to wholegrain. Then I incorporated foods from my “anti-anxiety foods list” into meals as often as possible. I also avoid highly processed foods which contain additives and high levels of fat and sugar.

Q: What are the benefits?

A: At the time of writing this, I have been following the plan for 17 days and already I have more energy, feel generally healthier and my anxiety attacks feel less powerful. I have also been experiencing anxiety attacks less often. More about this on the post My Revelation.

Q: Why change to wholegrain?

A: Wholegrains contain serotonin which boosts your mood and relaxes the body. They also keep you fuller for longer and help prevent dips in energy levels.

Q: Is it a diet?

No, not at all! The idea behind the eating plan is to make healthier choices, which hopefully will have an impact on my anxiety. I’m not limiting calories or cutting out food groups and I have no desire to lose weight.

Q: Can I join in?

Of course! Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting helpful guides as well as more recipes. I hope to turn this blog into a useful resource for people who want to try the eating plan out for themselves.

Q: Is the plan only for people with anxiety?

No, anyone can follow it. I only have experience of anxiety but I believe that the plan will help with any mental health condition. If you try it out let me know how you get on!
